Hello Omies! I’m Ally Thompson, a native Iowan originally from Fairfield and currently based in Cedar Rapids. My yoga journey began at a young age, but it wasn’t until I rediscovered my practice at Hot House Yoga nine years ago that yoga became the real love of my life. I was a newly licensed massage therapist practicing out of a yoga studio when I learned they were holding a yoga teacher training. I signed up and became immersed in my practice, first as a student and then as a teacher. I use my accumulative knowledge of yoga to teach and lead you into a playful practice. I aspires to teach a strong, confident practice to help encourage my omies to become present in their everyday chaotic lives. Her influences have been Matthew Sweeney, Kelly Green, Janet Stone, Dylan Warner, and Maureen Mondanaro. Yoga has expanded my potential and led to continual growth by helping me find balance, strength, and compassion.
Two years ago, I began wondering why Cedar Rapids didn’t have a yoga festival like the ones I’d been to in other cities across the nation. I didn’t have any training or experience hosting events, but I figured that if I invited my favorite yoga teachers (locally and nationally) and made the festival affordable, people would come. Last fall, the first Fields of Yogis festival was held in Cedar Rapids and attended by two hundred beautiful yogis. The second annual festival was held in August, 2017. The experience made me realize that life is full of opportunity and I can do more than I thought possible if I put my mind to it. In that spirit, I took on another new role as general manager of YogaIowa. I’m excited to learn new skills and perspectives to help me bring my passion for yoga to a wider audience.
