Beth has been active all of her life but fitness became her passion when she met her husband in 2004. Ken McClelland, owner of The Anvil Gym, has been a strength coach for 14 years and started to share his knowledge with Beth when they met. Beth started lifting weights and fell in love with both Ken and the gym. After graduating college from UNI in the spring of 2005, Beth moved to Cedar Rapids to be closer to Ken, and started working for Principal Financial in September of 2005. While working at Principal, Beth competed in two figure competitions in 2009 and a powerlifting meet in 2011, where she won the women’s overall best lifter.
In the fall of 2010, Beth was notified that Principal was closing the medical insurance division of the company and the entire office she was working in. Beth decided that she wanted to take her career in a different direction, so started her 200 hour yoga certification at HotHouse Yoga in Coralville/Iowa City with Jim Mondanaro. Beth had been practicing yoga since 2007, but really found a passion for it after submersing herself in the teacher training.
Beth was aware of the demand for hot yoga in Cedar Rapids, so decided to pursue a new dream of sharing her passion for hot yoga to the people of Cedar Rapids. Beth opened Heat Yoga Studio & Spa on February 11, 2013. In August of 2013, Beth spent two weeks in Monterey, California obtaining her 85 hour Prenatal Yoga certification and doula training through Nine Moons Prenatal Yoga.
Beth would like to thank her husband for believing in her. He gave her the strength and courage to pursue her dream. She would also like to thank Jim & Maureen Mondanaro for their wisdom, insight, and support. She would not have accomplished her goal without their help.
